The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is the world’s most prestigious and widely accepted exam for admission to top business schools across the world. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) administers the GMAT examination which has been used as a benchmark in terms of trustworthiness and acceptability for MBA program admissions for over half a century now. There are more than 2400 business schools all over the world which accept the GMAT results for about 7700 post-graduate business programs globally including top-ranked institutions.
The recent edition of the test called the GMAT Focus Edition (GMAT 11th Edition) has been carefully designed by GMAC in conjunction with top universities and colleges in the world. This latest GMAT test (GMAT 2026) is much shorter with a total duration of two hours and 15 minutes whereas previously the GMAT test used to take around three hours and seven minutes to complete.
GMAT 2026 exam evaluates the candidates' skills in three significant areas, which include Quantitative Reasoning (QR), Verbal Reasoning (VR) and Data Insights (DI). The admission committees in business schools consider GMAT scores together with academic performance, professional experience, essays and recommendation letters to evaluate whether the candidates are prepared for the challenging academic environment in the best MBA and management programs.
GMAT is acceptable for MBA, EMBA, MIM, MS in Management and other similar programs in the USA, Canada, India, the United Kingdom, Australia and Europe. GMAT 2026 Exam Fee is $300 for the Online test and $275 for the Test Centre exam. Candidates have an option to take the GMAT 2026 exam either at an authorised test centre or from their home.
Understanding the GMAT Focus Edition
To provide students access to over 7000 MBA programs offered by over 2400 universities around the globe, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) introduced the GMAT Exam-Focus version. Registration for the GMAT Focus Edition commenced on 29 August 2023 and the exam was initially available on 7 November 2023.
In order to meet the requirements of top business schools and the variety of courses offered around the world GMAT has introduced an innovative and highly adaptive testing system. The GMAT Focus Edition is a computer-adaptive test that is essentially identical to the existing GMAT exam and can be undertaken at home or in a test centre.
What is on the GMAT?
The GMAT test does not rely on your ability to memorise formulas or textbook knowledge. Instead it is designed to test your practical reasoning and analysis skills which are the exact skills required at a business school. Because GMAT scores are valid for five years after the test date, applicants have a great deal of freedom when it comes to scheduling their time in business school. The exam evaluates candidates across three key sections each measuring a distinct and critical skill set -
GMAT Exam 2026 - Section-wise Breakdown
Quantitative Reasoning (QR) - It tests the proficiency of the test taker in the field of mathematics and analytical reasoning through practical business-oriented questions. It is based on the efficiency of the candidate in applying mathematical principles in practical life situations.
Verbal Reasoning (VR) - This section tests the efficiency of a candidate in reading, interpreting and analysing arguments in the English language. Verbal reasoning is crucial for success in international MBA and business programs.
Data Insights (DI) - This section is an advanced form of the previous Integrated Reasoning section. The section examines the efficiency of the test taker in comprehending and analysing the given tables and charts and taking business-oriented decisions from the acquired information.
